On Wednesday, the institute said that classes have resumed at the IIT-Powai campus. The move came days after protests broke out following Wakode's alleged suicide.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress on Thursday said that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi spoke to Sahil's family over phone and assured them of support in the fight for justice. According to the party's state unit, Gandhi expressed solidarity with the family and assured all possible help in getting justice for Sahil.
After Sahil's death, his family has made serious allegations against the IIT-Bombay administration and some officials. The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police is currently investigating this matter.
Youth Congress is also going to hold a press conference regarding this matter on Thursday afternoon. The organization is expected to announce its future strategy and further action in this matter.
Mumbai Police on Wednesday said Wakode's death is being investigated impartially and all possible aspects are under investigation. The police also appealed to the people not to spread false information about this case.
According to sources, earlier after his name cropped up in the case of Wakode's death, IIT-Bombay Professor Suryanarayan Doola was sent on leave pending the ongoing investigation.
Wakode's parents have demanded immediate arrest of Dula. A case has been registered against him on charges of abetment of suicide and caste-based discrimination following the death of the student.
Wakode, a second-year B.Tech student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, was found hanging in his hostel room at the Powai campus on the evening of September 18. The incident happened hours after he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during mid-semester exams.
