New Delhi: A shocking and sad news has come out from the prohibition state Nagaland. There are reports of at least 19 people losing their lives due to drinking adulterated liquor. These incidents have come to light from Mokokchung and Tuensang districts of the state, after which there is panic in the administration and the police immediately started investigation.
These deaths have been reported from two different districts of Nagaland within the last two days. Eight people died in Mokokchung, while 11 people lost their lives in Tuensang due to consumption of suspected illicit liquor. It is noteworthy that complete prohibition has been in force in Nagaland since 1990, yet this kind of incident has surprised everyone.
Special team formed for investigation
To get to the bottom of these deaths and find out the real source of adulterated liquor, the police have formed a special investigation team i.e. SIT. Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kejo informed on Saturday that the command of this team has been handed over to Additional Superintendent of Police I Bunglong Chang. To know the real cause of death, samples of suspected liquor have been sent to Guwahati for forensic examination. The officer said that some important clues have been found in the investigation, although it is too early to make the complete information public.
19 arrested, thousands of bottles seized
As soon as these deaths came to light, the police started raiding many places in the affected areas. During this action, 19 people have been arrested so far, while about 3,000 bottles of liquor have also been seized. Let us tell you that the prohibition law has been in force in Nagaland since 1990, but despite this, the illegal liquor business continued in the state. After this entire incident, the police has appealed to the people not to consume unidentified, unlabeled or any kind of suspicious illegal liquor. Officials also said that if a person experiences symptoms like dizziness, blurred vision, difficulty in breathing or fainting after drinking alcohol, he should immediately seek medical help.
