The Indian electric scooter market will be soon seeing the entry of not one but two new family EV scooters. Ather Energy and Simple Energy, both new-gen EV automakers, are getting ready to introduce their new family-oriented electric scooters. They will help the companies in targeting a much larger audience than the performance-focused models offered by both brands. So without any delay, here is everything we know about these two upcoming family electric scooters.
The first family electric scooter which will be launching tomorrow, on August 29, 2026, during Ather Community Day is the Ather Konarc. It will become the first production scooter based on the company’s new EL platform. This new platform has been developed to support multiple electric two-wheelers across different segments and price points.
The platform has also been designed with cost optimisation in mind. With Konarc, Ather wants to target a bigger section of the Indian electric scooter market. Now, unlike the sporty 450 series, the Konarc gets a much more conventional family scooter design. Its recently leaked production images have shown a matte silver exterior with a glossy black handlebar cowl housing the LED headlamp.
The front apron gets a distinctive U-shaped LED DRL, meanwhile, a similar lighting pattern is seen at the rear as well. Other visible elements include a wide single-piece seat, silver pillion grab rail with an integrated backrest, bluish-grey inner panels, a flat floorboard and a small storage cubby on the front apron.
The Konarc will also get a large touchscreen instrument console with Ather’s connected technology and software ecosystem. Another interesting feature is the expected Airwalk function. This feature uses the electric motor to reduce the effort required when manually moving the scooter. This will be particularly useful while parking or moving the scooter around tight spaces.
The Konarc is expected to use Ather’s new Bedrock battery system and could be offered with multiple battery configurations. It has been reported that its IDC-certified range figures will be 100 km, 125 km, 160 km and up to 200 km, depending on the variant. The scooter is expected to come available in six variants, including four S variants. These will include SR1, SR2, SR3 and SR4, along with two Q variants, QR2 and QR3.
Another major highlight could be its charging setup. The Konarc is expected to feature a built-in 450W charger. This will allow the scooter to be connected directly to a regular electrical socket. An additional 450W charger could also be offered as well, which will take the combined charging capability to around 900W.
With this setup, Ather claims a 0-80 percent charging time of around two hours. The Konarc is expected to be positioned around the Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.25 lakh price range. And as for the competition, it will compete with family electric scooters such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and its own sibling, the Ather Rizta.
Just a few days after the launch of the Ather Konarc, Simple Energy will be unveiling its new family electric scooter on September 2, 2026. Earlier known internally as the Arrive, the production version has now been confirmed to carry the nameplate of Simple Wave. This will be an important product for Simple Energy as the company wants to move ahead of the performance-oriented One range and enter India’s much larger family scooter market.
The Wave will feature a more conventional design compared to the Simple One. Test vehicles have shown a large single-piece seat and spacious floorboard. It will also boast practical proportions which will provide better comfort for both the rider and pillion. The scooter is also expected to get a more conventional front suspension setup, with a telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear.
Braking duties are expected to be handled by a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. Recent reports have also suggested that the production scooter could use 12-inch wheels at both ends. It has also been noted that the charging port has been positioned on the front apron, which will make it easier to access while charging.
Now, unlike the Konarc, Simple Energy has not yet revealed the battery capacity, motor output, charging specifications or final claimed range of the Wave. Reports have suggested that it could offer a range of around 180 km. However, this figure is unconfirmed until the official launch.
The Wave is expected to feature a TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity, navigation and other connected functions. Simple Energy is also expected to focus heavily on practicality and everyday usability with this scooter, rather than outright performance.
Additionally, the company is expanding its dealership network alongside the launch of the Wave. This means that the scooter is aimed particularly at buyers in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. It is expected to compete with the Ather Rizta, Ather Konarc, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak with its expected price tag of around Rs 1.3 lakh.
