New Delhi. According to the police, with the aim of strengthening the security arrangements for women, 20 new multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) have been included in the Mahila PCR fleet of Delhi Police. With this, Mahila PCR's existing fleet of 15 vehicles has increased to 35 MPVs. Two dedicated women police personnel will be deployed in each new MPV.
According to the police, the purpose of the deployment of the new MPV is to increase surveillance at places with potential risks to women's safety and improve access to police assistance when needed. Special attention will be paid to ensuring the presence of women policemen on the routes where women move, especially during holidays, around schools and colleges, in markets and busy commercial areas.
Police say that two women policemen deployed in each MPV will patrol the prescribed route and keep an eye on security related activities in the area. If any woman or student needs police assistance, they will reach the spot and provide necessary assistance and coordinate with the concerned police station or other police unit as per the need. According to the police, with the addition of 20 new MPVs, the coverage of women PCR will increase and regular patrolling in more areas will be possible.
Its objective is to increase the visible presence of police in public places, strengthen the sense of security among women and improve police response to security needs. According to Delhi Police, efforts will be made to make the women safety system more effective by routing the new MPV as per the requirement of the area.
