All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has started sharpening its election strategy for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027. The party has claimed to be prepared to contest elections on about 200 assembly seats in the state, but at present its entire emphasis is on about 20 such seats, where the chances of victory are considered strong considering the large number of Muslim voters and the results of the previous elections and the organizational base of the party. AIMIM may be eyeing 200 seats but in the initial strategy these 20 seats are being considered the most important. The party is busy looking for strong candidates along with setting up organizations up to the booth level in these areas.
In AIMIM's strategy, Muslim influenced seats including Prayagraj, Bahraich, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha are being given importance. The party believes that its presence can be registered in the electoral contest in these areas through a strong organization and effective candidates. According to party state president Shaukat Ali, AIMIM is preparing to contest the elections on a large scale in 2027. The party has said that it will contest elections on about 200 seats. However, in the initial phase, strength is being put on those seats where the organization and voter base is strong.
Excitement increased due to 2023 civic elections
AIMIM has got enthusiasm for the assembly elections due to its success in the 2023 civic elections. Party candidates had won the municipal elections in areas like Sambhal, Sikandrarau, Ghatampur, Kundarki and Dibiyapur. After this, the party has made a strategy to further strengthen its organization in these areas. In Sikandrarau, the party candidate had won by a margin of about 22 thousand votes, while in Ghatampur also the party candidate had won. AIMIM is seeing these results as a sign of its growing influence in the assembly elections.

Claim of 200 seats, strength on first 20
The party's strategy is being seen at two levels. On one hand, AIMIM is preparing to establish an organization and field candidates on about 200 seats in the entire state, while on the other hand, by giving priority to about 20 seats, the organization is being strengthened up to the booth and assembly level. The party is trying to make the contest triangular or multi-cornered by fielding strong candidates on the seats where the number of Muslim voters is high. For this, Asaduddin Owaisi's activism is also expected to increase in the coming days.
With AIMIM entering the fray, the most talked about issue is the possible vote division among Muslim voters. The party is preparing to strengthen its political ground instead of contesting elections only on limited seats. In such a situation, in the 2027 elections, AIMIM can influence the electoral equation of opposition parties on many seats from Western UP to Awadh and Purvanchal. However, the announcement of contesting elections on 200 seats and the special focus on 20 seats at present is not considered contradictory, but part of the phased election strategy. First, the organization and candidate's ability will be tested on strong seats, after which it can be expanded to other seats.

The party says that it wants to increase its political stake in the state and will present an effective challenge on as many seats as possible in the elections. In such a situation, the big question is that why is AIMIM, which is preparing to contest elections on 200 seats, putting so much strength on only 20 seats in the initial phase? Actually, the party is considering these seats as the basis of its election strategy. If the organization and performance here remains strong, the stake can be increased on the remaining seats also during the assembly elections.
