Mumbai: India have been placed in the same group as Australia and Pakistan for the 2027 ODI World Cup, to be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the fixtures on Thursday, a year before the tournament kicks off in Africa.
The 12 teams — two are yet to be decided — will be divided into two groups of six each.
Afghanistan, Australia, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and one of the qualifiers make up Group A. Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the other qualifier comprise Group B. The two qualifiers will be confirmed from a 10-team tournament early next year, with the winner advancing to the group stage and the losing finalist and two losing semi-finalists to play the Super Series at the start of the World Cup.
India will begin their campaign in Group A against Australia on October 7 at Cape Town, before taking on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 10 at Johannesburg.
Shubman Gill’s men will also face Afghanistan on October 14, Qualifier A on October 17 and Zimbabwe on October 24.
The final will be staged at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on November 21.
Next year’s tournament will have a new look, with three stages before the knockouts. The Super Series in Windhoek will feature a battle among three qualifiers to make the main group stage.
The 12 teams, split into two groups, will then play round-robin leagues, with the best seven teams progressing to the Super 7 phase.
The World Cup will kick off on October 2, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who spent two decades working as a lawyer in South Africa.
