2,437 apprentice trainees will get the job of assistant lineman in PSPCL, a big decision of Punjab government.
Chandigarh:As per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has decided to recruit 2,437 Apprentice Trainees as Assistant Linemen (ALM) in Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). This announcement was made today by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema while addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan.
Youth Welfare and Employment Generation
This decision will fulfill the long-standing demand of apprentice trainees, and reflects the state government’s commitment towards employment generation and youth welfare. The Chief Minister has adopted a missionary approach to provide employment opportunities to the youth in Punjab Government departments.
Board approval and process
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Board of Directors of PSPCL, considering the advice of the Advocate General of Punjab, has approved the recruitment of 2,437 apprentice trainees as Assistant Linemen (ALM). It is noteworthy that these trainees are currently undergoing apprenticeship training in Lineman trade at PSPCL and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL).
Punjabi language test system
He further said that PSPCL will conduct compulsory test of Punjabi language as a one time relaxation for the said trainees. The exam schedule will be informed in time on the official website of PSPCL, after which the process will be taken forward.
Chief Minister’s vision
The Finance Minister said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann believes that it is very important to provide gainful employment to the youth to channel their energy constructively towards nation building and to keep them away from social evils.

He further said that as a result of the continuous efforts of the present government, a total of 9,627 recruitments have been made in PSPCL and PSTCL from April 2022. Giving details, he said that out of the total 9,627 recruitments, 8,048 were made through direct recruitment and 1,579 on compassionate grounds.
He said that earlier this year, appointment letters were handed over to 570 candidates belonging to different categories by the Honorable Chief Minister. The recruitment process for approximately 3,000 additional posts is currently underway, which is expected to be completed by November 2026. Administrative Secretary, Electricity-cum-Chairman and Managing Director, PSPCL Dr. Basant Garg was also present on this occasion.
