If you are in your 40s or 50s and are trying to lose weight, but obesity is not reducing. If you eat less, take a low calorie diet and do a lot of cardio exercise, but you are still not getting results, then there is no need to worry. In this, along with your workout and diet, hormonal changes in the body also play an important role.
Fitness coach Raj Ganpath (founder of the Slow Burn Method, co-founder and head coach of Quad Fitness, and author of the book Simple, Not Easy) shared a post on Instagram in which he explains why women in their 40s and 50s may have difficulty losing weight. He told that if you are eating too little, doing too much cardio and depriving yourself of many things in order to lose weight, then you should stop all this immediately.
Why does one not lose weight at the age of 40-50?
Coach Raj Ganpath According to this, to lose weight at this age, along with diet and workout, it is important to also look at the hormonal changes occurring in the body. The problem you are facing in losing weight does not mean that you are working less hard but it is because your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) has reduced. Why did this happen? Because you are going through perimenopause. And during perimenopause, the level of estrogen in your body fluctuates, due to which the muscle mass in the body decreases and as the muscle mass decreases, the BMR also decreases.
How to lose weight after 40?
The solution isn’t to cut calories, starve yourself, or do more cardio. Instead, you should focus on building muscles. By keeping these things in mind, you can build more muscles or strengthen the ones you already have.
strength training- Strength training is very important to maintain muscle. Challenging your muscles gives them the support they need to maintain and increase strength. According to the fitness coach, do strength training regularly and with full dedication for two to four days every week. Make it possible somehow.
Consume enough protein- Protein is essential for the strength of muscles and bones. Along with strength training, adequate protein intake helps maintain and strengthen muscles. Take 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of your body weight every day.
Adequate sleep- Sleep is very important to keep the body healthy. Muscles also recover and grow when rested, so no matter how vigorous a workout you do, your hard work will not pay off unless you give your body enough time to rest.
