Health Desk. Brain tumor is a condition in which abnormal growth of cells starts inside the brain. Not every brain tumor is cancerous, but due to limited space in the brain, the pressure of the tumor can affect the surrounding areas. Due to this, some changes may appear in the body, which are not right to ignore.
Symptoms of brain tumor can vary depending on the size of the tumor, its location and the speed of growth. Sometimes the initial symptoms resemble normal health problems. Therefore, in case of persistent or gradually increasing abnormal symptoms, it is important to consult a doctor.
1. Frequent or increasing headaches
Persistent headaches can be a possible sign of a brain tumor, especially when the headaches are different from the past or get worse over time. Some people may experience headache more in the morning or the pain may increase when coughing, sneezing and straining. However, there can be many common causes of headache. Therefore, brain tumor cannot be concluded on the basis of headache alone.
2. Sudden trouble seeing
Pressure on certain parts of the brain can cause vision problems. Symptoms such as blurred vision, double vision or changes in the field of vision may occur. If eye related problems have started suddenly, are recurring or persist, then it is important to get them checked. Apart from brain tumor, there can be many other reasons behind this.
3.Weakness or numbness in any part
Weakness, numbness or loss of sensation in the arms, legs or any part of the body can also be a warning sign. Especially if this problem is felt more on one side of the body or increases over time. Such symptoms should not be ignored, because apart from brain tumor, stroke and other neurological problems can also be behind them.
4. Difficulty in speaking and understanding
When language-related parts of the brain are affected, a person may have trouble speaking, difficulty finding the right words, or trouble understanding what others are saying. Frequently forgetting words during conversation or having unusual manner of speaking are also noticeable changes. If trouble speaking starts suddenly, it can be considered a medical emergency. In such a situation, it is important to seek medical help immediately.
5. Seizures or changes in behavior
Such a person having sudden seizures, tremors in the body or behaving abnormally for some time can also be a sign of a brain-related problem. In some cases, changes in memory, concentration, personality or behavior may also be seen. In case of first attack, it is important to get medical examination done immediately. The doctor may recommend tests such as neurological examination and brain imaging as needed.
