A little while ago, turbo-petrol engines were mostly limited to higher variants and performance-focused cars. However, in the last couple of years, things have changed. Today, even buyers with a budget of around Rs 7.5 lakh can also get a turbo-petrol car without opting for a higher variant. Now, if you are someone who wants to buy an affordable turbo-petrol car, here is the list.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza LXi Turbo is one of the most affordable ways to get a turbo-petrol SUV. It is priced at Rs 7.39 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes equipped with a 1.0-litre K10C three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The engine produces 109 bhp and 170 Nm. As for the gearbox, it gets a 5-speed manual gearbox, powering the front-wheel drive.
The Brezza LXi Turbo offers an ARAI-claimed mileage of 20.47 kmpl. Despite being the base variant, it gets automatic climate control, power windows, halogen projector headlamps, 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, ESC, Hill Start Assist, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. However, it misses out on a factory-fitted touchscreen infotainment system.
Next up in the list is the Tata Nexon Smart, which earlier used to be the most affordable turbo-petrol-engined car in India. It starts at Rs 7.40 lakh (ex-showroom), and for the price, it gets a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron turbo-petrol engine. This motor is capable of producing 118.27 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and also gets Eco, City and Sport drive modes.
As for the mileage it offers, it offers an ARAI-claimed mileage of 17.44 kmpl. Its main highlights include six airbags, ESC, Hill Hold Control, ABS with EBD, Roll-over Mitigation and rear parking sensors. The Nexon base Smart variant also gets LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail-lamps and a full digital instrument cluster.
The French automaker Citroen’s C3 X Feel Turbo is slightly more expensive than the Brezza and Nexon, as its prices start at around Rs 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Citroen offers the C3 X with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech turbo-petrol engine that produces 108.6 bhp and 190 Nm. The engine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The ARAI-claimed mileage of the Citroen C3 X is 19.3 kmpl, and it gets Citroen’s Advanced Comfort Suspension, which is one of the best in the market. It also gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electrically adjustable ORVMs, four power windows and manual air conditioning. Safety equipment includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors.
Coming to the next affordable turbo car, we have the Skoda Kylaq Classic. It starts at Rs 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom), and it comes equipped with the time-tested 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine. It is capable of producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm. This engine offers an ARAI-claimed mileage of 19.68 kmpl and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a claimed 10.5 seconds.
Being the base variant, it misses out on an infotainment system. However, it does get a number of standard safety equipment, including six airbags, ESC, Multi-Collision Braking, Electronic Differential Lock, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. The Classic variant also gets full LED headlights, LED DRLs and LED tail-lamps.
Last on the list is the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX1, which starts at Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom). This sub-compact SUV comes equipped with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mStallion turbo-petrol engine, which makes 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, which is the highest on this list. It also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. The XUV 3XO offers an ARAI-claimed mileage of 18.89 kmpl.
The MX1 variant comes offered with six airbags, ESC, ISOFIX mounts, rear parking sensors and four-wheel disc brakes as standard. It also gets manual air conditioning with rear AC vents, front and rear power windows and electrically adjustable ORVMs. However, like other base variants, it does not get a factory-fitted touchscreen or audio system.
