New Delhi: On Sunday afternoon, a five-storey building being used as a PG in Delhi's Satya Niketan suddenly collapsed. Six students have died in the accident, while many others are feared buried under the debris. Relief and rescue operations are continuing. Meanwhile, a CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, in which a person sitting outside can be seen running fast to save his life as soon as the building collapsed.

After the building collapse, the work of removing the debris and searching for the people trapped in it continued till late night in Satya Niketan. A large number of students and local people were also present at the incident site. Many local people joined the rescue teams and helped in removing the debris. At the same time, some students were present there to get information about their friends and colleagues.
'Feeled like there was an explosion'
Eyewitnesses said that the sound of the sudden collapse of the building was so loud that initially they thought that a big explosion had occurred somewhere. After this there was shouting on the spot. Within a few moments the entire area was filled with a dense cloud of dust and people started running towards safe places.
Special committee to investigate the accident
The Delhi government has formed a special investigation committee to find out the cause of the incident and the people responsible. The committee will investigate all aspects related to the accident and identify the culprits and submit a report. On the other hand, the police have filed an FIR against the building owner Hariram Bansal and have intensified their search for him. Many police teams are raiding possible locations.
Search for life in the debris with modern equipment
NDRF teams are using modern technology and special equipment to search for people buried under the debris of the five-storey building. Signs of life are being searched under the debris with the help of life detectors, trained search dogs and different types of cutting machines.
As soon as information about the accident was received, two NDRF teams reached the spot. About 70 soldiers started the search operation in different parts of the debris. Two additional teams were also kept ready to increase the operation if needed. The biggest challenge was to find out whether any person was trapped alive amidst the heavy and unstable debris. Where signs of life were found through life detectors or search dogs, the soldiers started removing the debris with utmost care. For this, cutting and breaching techniques were used, so that a safe path could be made to the people trapped inside.
Unconscious youth was taken out in 15 minutes
When signs of life were found during the rescue, NDRF soldiers took swift action. The team pulled out an unconscious youth from the debris within about 15 minutes. After this, two other people were taken out safely in about 30 minutes.
If there are signs of life then the path is made
After ascertaining the exact location of the trapped people, the soldiers cut the concrete with a diamond chain saw. Hydraulic jack and combi cutter were used to remove heavy debris. At some places the help of plasma cutter was also taken. High-strength inflatable bags and shoring equipment were deployed to stabilize weak and moving parts of the debris. With the help of these techniques, the rescue team reduced the risk and made a way inside and continued trying to reach the people trapped under the debris.
