New Delhi: Amid reports of alleged infiltration of Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh, India has given a strong message to China. India has made it clear that such activities of the Chinese army on the border will not be accepted. Also, China has been warned to avoid repeating any such incident in future.
An important conversation took place between senior military officers of India and China on this matter on Sunday. Many issues related to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the eastern sector were discussed in the meeting. This conversation continued till late night. According to sources, this meeting is being given special importance after the information about the alleged entry of Chinese troops in Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh has come to light recently.
Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, Commander of the Third Corps of the Indian Army, led the Indian side in the talks held at the Vacha-Damai meeting point on the Indian side in Arunachal Pradesh. Officials of similar rank from the Chinese side also participated in the talks.
Why is this military meeting important?
This conversation between military commanders took place after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval's visit to Beijing last month. Doval had discussed many important issues including LAC with the Chinese Foreign Minister during the Special Representative level talks in China. This is also said to be the first such meeting of the military commanders of the eastern region.
Increased importance before Jinping's visit to India
At the same time, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to come to India to attend the BRICS conference this week. In such a situation, the military talks held before the possible bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jinping are being considered very important.
'Relations cannot be limited to just border disputes'
Meanwhile, former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has also expressed his opinion regarding relations with China. He said that the India-China border dispute has not been completely resolved yet and there is no complete consensus between the two countries regarding LAC. However, he also said that the relations between the two countries cannot be seen only from the perspective of border dispute. India and China are big powers and economies of Asia. There is both cooperation and competition between the two countries and views on regional and global issues may differ. In such a situation, it is important to maintain constant dialogue and contact with China.
