5 Zorro Movies in Development, Including Quentin Tarantino Crossover
Zorro fans have a lot to look forward to with five new movies in development. According to the latest development, Hollywood is going all in on the masked vigilante and his iconic brand of justice.
What Zorro movies are currently in development?
According to Licensing Works!via Jeff Sneider’s The InSneiderthere are five new Zorro movies in the works, along with a TV show. The Zorror projects in development are as follows:
- Django/Zorro crossover film
- Animated Zorro film by Sony
- A live-action/CGI hybrid Zorro film
- Lady Zorro film by Robert Rodriguez
- A “classic female” Zorro film
- New Zorro TV series
Some of the projects have been in the works for a long time, but the report also includes some surprises. One of the most exciting inclusions is the Zorro/Django Unchained crossover. Robert Rodriguez’s Lady Zorro project was previously planned to be a TV showbut it has evolved into a film. The movie will be released on an unannounced streaming service.
An animated film is in development at Sony Pictures Animation, to be directed by Manny Hernandez and produced by Will Gluck, known for the Peter Rabbit films. Hernandez previously directed We Bare Bears and also provided voices in Pixar’s Hoppers.
The live-action or GI hybrid animation film is being developed by Sony and written by David Birnbaum. The film will see the masked vigilante enlist a CGI Fox, voiced by Eugenio Derbez, as his protégé.
No additional details were shared regarding the “classic female Zorro” film, though the site notes that it will be announced with a “major streamer” soon. The new TV series, meanwhile, will be based on Isabel Allende’s eponymous 2005 novel, serving as an origin story for the character.
That’s a lot of the masked Hispanic vigilante, whose real name is Don Diego de la Vega. The character has appeared in numerous films and other adaptations since his creation in the early 1900s. The latest Zorro project is the French series starring Jean Dujardin, which will debut in the U.S. later this June on MHz Choice.
