News Desk. A big initiative has been taken towards strengthening rail connectivity in Seemanchal region of Bihar. Permission has been granted to start the tender process for the Kishanganj-Jalalgarh new railway line project. This 51.632 km long railway line will help in connecting Purnia and Kishanganj areas of Bihar along with West Bengal with better rail connectivity.
Was waiting for 17 years
The proposal of Kishanganj-Jalalgarh rail line was under discussion since 2008-09. To take forward this long pending project, Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and kept in constant correspondence with the officials of the Railway Ministry and Railway Board. After the notification issued in the Gazette of India on 30 July 2026, now the process related to land survey, measurement, objections and compensation will be able to proceed.
Farmers and businessmen benefit
With the construction of the railway line, people of Purnia and Kishanganj areas are expected to get transportation facilities. Travel can become easier for students, patients, working people and businessmen. At the same time, farmers can also benefit by reducing the time and transportation cost in taking agricultural products to big markets.
Employment and regional development will gain momentum
The new rail project is expected to boost local business and economic activities while increasing employment opportunities during construction. Due to its proximity to the Nepal border, this rail link is also considered to have administrative and strategic importance.
Now the people of the area are eyeing the commencement of construction work after land acquisition, compensation and tender. The progress of the project after a long wait is being considered a big achievement for Seemanchal.
