The national capital New Delhi is once again all set to host the 18th BRICS Summit (BRICS Summit 2026), one of the most powerful economic forums in the world. Heads of state, top diplomats and hundreds of foreign representatives of the extended member countries of BRICS including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa are participating in this three-day international Mahamanthan, running from 11 September to 13 September 2026, at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam located at Pragati Maidan. To ensure impenetrable security of foreign VVIP guests and uninterrupted movement of their huge motorcades consisting of dozens of bulletproof vehicles, Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory. There will be strict restrictions on entry of normal vehicles in many parts of Lutyens Delhi and Central Delhi during the next 72 hours. The Traffic Police has appealed to the common citizens to use Delhi Metro instead of private vehicles to avoid inconvenience and to have complete information about alternative routes before leaving home. More than 35 major roads will remain controlled: Completely avoid going on these routes. According to the advisory of Delhi Traffic Police, more than 35 roads around New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area, Diplomatic Enclave and Bharat Mandapam have been declared as 'Regulated/Controlled Zone'. Only pass-holding vehicles, authorized diplomatic convoys and emergency vehicles will be allowed on these routes: Central and Lutyens Delhi roads: Mathura Road (Bhairon Marg to W-Point), Tilak Marg, C-Hexagon (India Gate), Shershah Suri Marg, Purana Qila Road, Bhagwan Das Road, Ferozshah Road, Copernicus Marg and Mandi House Square. VVIP Movement Corridors: Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Tughlaq Road, Safdarjung Road and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Diplomatic and South Delhi Connectors: Shanti Path, Neeti Marg, Satya Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kautilya Marg, Africa Avenue (Bhikaji Cama Place to Yashwant Place), Joseph Broz Tito Marg and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. Connaught Place and ITO area: Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath, Tolstoy Marg, Barakhamba Road and Minto Road. Entry of heavy vehicles and non-destination commercial vehicles will also be completely banned at ITO Chowk. 22 diversion points decided: Know the major cuts and alternative routes of the city To control the heavy traffic pressure and deal with the jam, Delhi Police has strategically created 22 major diversion points: W-Point (Dr. Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk): Traffic going towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg is being diverted towards Bahadur Shah Zafar (BSZ) Marg, IP Marg and Sikandra Road. Patel Chowk and RML Roundabout: There will be restrictions on movement towards Sansad Marg and Windsor Place; Drivers can use Ashok Road and Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Dhaula Kuan and Moti Bagh flyover: Traffic on Sardar Patel Marg and Shanti Path will be stopped and diverted to Outer Ring Road, Rao Tula Ram (RTR) Marg and Vande Mataram Marg. Lodhi Road Underpass and Neela Gumbad: Vehicles going towards Bharat Mandapam and Oberoi flyover have been diverted towards Barapula Elevated Road and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. Special advisory for passengers going to the airport and railway station: If you have a train or flight between 11th and 13th September, then leave with at least 1 to 2 hours extra time compared to normal days: Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport): Traffic police has strictly advised the passengers going to the airport to use the Airport Express Metro Line (Orange Line). UER-II (Urban Extension Road-2) and NH-48 service road from Gurgaon and Dwarka side will remain open for those traveling by road. Commuters from South and East Delhi can take the route of AIIMS Chowk, Moti Bagh, RTR Marg and Mahipalpur flyover. New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS): Avoid Ajmeri Gate and Kasturba Gandhi Marg. Passengers should take the route from Paharganj side to Outer Circle Connaught Place via DBG Road and Panchkuian Road. The second option is from Ashram Chowk via Ring Road to Rajghat and JLN route. Old Delhi Railway Station (ODRS): Use the Kashmere Gate ISBT, Ring Road, Hanuman Mandir and SP Mukherjee Marg corridors. Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station: Reach the station via AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road, Ashram Chowk and Mathura Road. Metro services will remain fully operational, 24-hour green corridor for ambulance. The biggest relief for Delhiites is that train services will operate normally at all the stations of Delhi Metro network during the summit. However, due to security reasons, some entry/exit gates of Supreme Court Metro Station may be restricted for a short period during VVIP movement. Arrangement of Green Corridor: Delhi Police has clarified that 24 hours uninterrupted 'Green Corridor' will be available for emergency medical vehicles (Ambulances) and fire tenders, so that no patient is delayed in reaching the hospital. No-entry on commercial vehicles: A complete ban has been imposed on the entry of non-destined heavy commercial vehicles in Delhi from the midnight of September 10. Citizens have been advised to keep checking live traffic updates by contacting the official X (Twitter) handle of Delhi Traffic Police or helpline number 1095 in case of any confusion.
