Two-day meeting of 8th Pay Commission begins in Kolkata
The two-day meeting of the Eighth Pay Commission is being held in Kolkata on July 9 and 10. In this, suggestions are being taken from employee organizations, pensioners associations and other concerned parties. The Commission is considering all these suggestions before preparing final recommendations.
Earlier, the Commission team had also held discussions with different parties in Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Srinagar and Ladakh. The suggestions received from these meetings will play an important role in preparing the final report.
Why was the demand for basic salary of Rs 72000 raised?
In the meeting, Bharatiya Immunity Mazdoor Sangh has proposed to implement 4 times fitment factor. The organization says that inflation and family responsibilities have increased in the last several years, hence there is a need for major changes in the existing salary structure.
If 4 times fitment factor is applied then the current minimum basic pay of Rs 18000 can increase to Rs 72000 (8th Pay Commission). Although this is only the demand of the employee organization, no final decision has been taken on this yet.
Is such an increase possible?
Financial experts believe that it will not be easy for the government to completely accept this demand. Considering the fiscal burden and budgetary situation, the possibility of implementing 4 times fitment factor is considered less. Many employee organizations are also demanding fitment factor between 2.86 to 3.83.
These issues will also be discussed
Apart from the salary, restoration of the old pension scheme, integrated pension system, house rent allowance, medical facilities of pensioners and arrangements related to promotion of employees are also expected to be discussed in detail in the meeting. Suggestions received on these subjects can become part of the final recommendations of the Commission.
