Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, Jammu and Kashmir: Registrations for this year’s holy yatra have started from today. Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has informed that devotees coming from the country and abroad will be able to register in 554 selected bank branches. This process will be based on the principle of first come-first serve. The dates of the yatra have also been announced, in which devotees will be able to visit the holy cave for 57 days.

The yatra will start from July 3 and continue till August 28. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that people in the age group of 13 to 70 years can participate in this yatra. The first puja in the cave will be held on June 19, on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima. The traditional 48 km long Nunwan-Pahalgam route from Anantnag and 14 km long Baltal route from Ganderbal will remain open for the yatra.

Every year from the end of June to August the holy pilgrimage of Shri Amareshwar Dham is organized. Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has started necessary preparations to conduct the Yatra smoothly.

Height and importance of the cave

This holy cave is situated at an altitude of about 3888 meters above sea level in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. It was in this cave that Lord Shiva narrated the story of immortality to Mother Parvati. This pilgrimage takes place in summer and ends on Shravan Purnima. Every year lakhs of devotees come to this Dham to have darshan of Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Lord Ganesha.

In the meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, it was decided to increase the accident insurance for pilgrims and service providers from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. This year a laser and sound show dedicated to Baba Bafarni will also be organized to make the pilgrims aware of the rich spiritual heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. This program will be held in Jammu and Srinagar.

Board officials said that this year the travel permit will be issued on the NIC portal after Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC authentication. If there is any technical problem in authentication, the bank branch will be able to register through manual photo and data entry.
