Varanasi ‘Taksal Shootout’: Decision on the feud between Dhananjay Singh and Abhay Singh after 24 years
Bureau Prayagraj. Today the Varanasi court has given a big decision in the two decade old legal battle going on between two big names of Uttar Pradesh politics and world of entertainment, Dhananjay Singh and Abhay Singh. In the famous ‘Taksal Cinema Shootout’ case of Cantt police station area, the court of Special Court (MP-MLA) Yajuvendra Vikram Singh has acquitted all the accused including MLA Abhay Singh, MLC Vineet Singh, giving the benefit of doubt.
Today was the time for judgment in this high-profile case that has been going on since 2002. Even before the decision came, MLA Abhay Singh had reached the court premises with his supporters. Given the lack of evidence and benefit of doubt, the court acquitted Abhay Singh (MLA-Gosaiganj), Vineet Singh (MLC), Sandeep Singh, Sanjay Singh, Vinod Singh and Satyendra Singh.
The incident took place on 4 October 2002 at around 6 pm. The then Kerakat MLA Dhananjay Singh along with his colleagues were returning to Jaunpur in a safari car after seeing a patient. As soon as his vehicle reached Taksal Cinema Hall in Nadesar, the attackers riding a Bolero surrounded him.
The allegation was that MLA Abhay Singh along with his colleagues came down and challenged him and started firing indiscriminately at Dhananjay Singh’s car with sophisticated weapons. In this deadly attack, Dhananjay Singh, his gunner and driver were seriously injured, who were admitted to Singh Medical for treatment.
In this case, former MP Dhananjay Singh had accused him of firing on his vehicle and many people including MLC Vineet Singh, MLA Abhay Singh were made accused in this case. In this shootout, the gunner and driver of former MP Dhananjay Singh were shot.
