‘After 34 years…’, Trump announced the US-brokered Lebanon-Israel peace meeting
After a long struggle, Israel and Lebanon are finally going to sit in a peace meeting (Israel-Lebanon Talks). This meeting is going to be mediated by the US. US President Donald Trump made this announcement on Thursday amid the Iran war. It is known that after 34 years this historic meeting is going to be held tomorrow i.e. Friday.
In the midst of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the US President gave a message on his social media handle Truth on Thursday. He wrote, ‘Trying to reduce the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon. After almost 34 years, the leaders of the two countries are going to face each other. This meeting is going to be held tomorrow. It’s definitely a great thing.’ On the other hand, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is optimistic about this meeting. He has already opened his mouth on this issue. In his words, he is optimistic that the suffering of the people of South Lebanon will end with this meeting. Besides his message, the main goal of the meeting is the control of the Lebanese army on the international border. No one else will be there. Moreover, it is not possible to restore peace.

Since the creation of Israel in 1948, there has been an ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon. The two countries do not have any diplomatic relations. It is known that the leaders of the two countries are going to meet for the first time after the Lebanon war in 1983 with the mediation of the US. However, the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah is reluctant to give special importance to this meeting. They recently targeted 13 cities in northern Israel.
In turn, Israel bombarded Bint Jbeil area of southern Lebanon. According to sources, an entire village has been wiped out in this deadly attack. The bridge connecting the southern Lebanese city of Tire and Beirut was also destroyed. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that the death toll from Israeli attacks has risen to 2,167. Among them are 172 children and more than 90 health workers. The number of injured is about 6 thousand.
