Weather suddenly took a turn in Delhi-NCR, rain after dusty storm

The weather has once again changed in NCR including the country’s capital Delhi. For the last few days, Delhiites were struggling with scorching heat and sweat. But now the capital has covered the sky with a blanket of clouds and dust and now it is raining in many parts of the city. The Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the city on Thursday. According to the alert, there was a possibility of light rain along with thunder and lightning in Delhi. On one hand, snowfall and rain continues in the hilly areas, while on the other hand, the scorching heat is troubling people in the plains of North and Central India including Rajasthan.

Meteorological Department’s yellow alert and warning

In view of the situation, the Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a yellow alert for areas like Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad. The department had warned that there may be light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning and winds may blow at high speed. The minimum temperature of Delhi today was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius, which was the highest temperature of this season so far. The maximum temperature was expected to be around 39 degrees but the sudden rain has pushed the mercury down. Similar effect of scattered clouds and drizzle is being seen in the surrounding areas also.

The reason behind the blanket of dust and smog

Meteorologists say that this change has come due to the cyclonic situation over western parts of Rajasthan and neighboring country Pakistan. The dust particles flying from there are moving towards Delhi-NCR with the wind, due to which a thick layer of dusty haze has spread in the sky. Due to this, there has been a slight decline in air quality and visibility has reduced. The direct impact of the dust storm and rain that has been going on for the last 24 hours in Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Bikaner of Rajasthan is now being clearly felt in Delhi and its surrounding cities.

Heat broke season’s record

The hottest morning of this season so far was recorded in Delhi on Thursday. The minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, which is above normal. At the same time, the maximum temperature was expected to be around 39 degrees Celsius. Amidst the scorching sun and rising temperatures, rain can provide relief from the heat. According to meteorologists, the reason for the sudden change in weather in Delhi is an ‘Induced Cyclonic Circulation’ formed over the western parts of Rajasthan and Pakistan. Meteorologists said, ‘Dust particles from these areas have come towards Delhi-NCR, due to which a layer of dusty haze has spread and the air quality has deteriorated.’

At the same time, a partial change in the weather is being seen in Rajasthan today on 17th April due to the effect of a western disturbance. There is a possibility of thunderstorms, strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km per hour and light rain at isolated places in the surrounding districts including Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Alwar, Kotputli, Behror and Dausa.

More impact of this system can be seen in Shekhawati region, which is adjacent to Punjab-Haryana. Hail and strong storm have also been recorded in some areas, due to which the weather suddenly became cold.

The torture of extreme heat continues

However, despite this effect of storm and rain, heat continues to wreak havoc in most parts of Rajasthan. The maximum temperature in the state remains between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius. Barmer was the hottest district with a temperature of 42.9°C, which is 3.2 degrees above normal. The temperature in Jaisalmer was recorded at 42.8°C.

The mercury has crossed 40 degrees in more than 18 cities of the state, making it difficult to go out in the afternoon. Hot winds (loo) and strong sunlight are affecting people a lot.
