Heat breaks all records: Mercury crosses 45°C in many cities, heat wave alert from Delhi to UP-Rajasthan
By the third week of April, the heat has started showing its true colors. In many parts of the country, the heat of the sun has become so intense that going out seems no less than a challenge. Rising temperatures and ongoing heat waves have affected people’s daily routine. The mercury has crossed 45 degrees in many cities and there is no hope of relief in the coming days.
The heat has made people miserable even in the capital Delhi and surrounding areas. Even today, strong sunlight and hot winds will trouble people here. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be between 22 to 24 degrees. Light clouds may definitely be visible in the sky, but this will not provide much relief from the heat.
According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature may increase further between April 20 and April 24 and it may cross 42 degrees. During this period the sky will remain clear and strong sunlight will further trouble people. Along with Delhi, the temperature is also continuously increasing in Punjab and Haryana. A few days ago, there was some respite from thunder and lightning, but now the weather has cleared and the effect of heat is going to intensify here in the coming days.
Change in weather patterns in hilly states
While there is heat in the plains, the weather is presenting a different picture in the hilly states. The weather may change in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh today. Thunderstorms along with strong winds can be seen in these areas. However, this change will not last long. After April 20, the weather will clear here and there is no possibility of any major alert till April 24.
Temperature reached 40-45 degrees in many parts of the country
The temperature has reached dangerous levels in many states of the country. In many areas of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Pradesh, mercury has been recorded between 40 to 45 degrees. Apart from this, similar heat is being seen in some parts of Chhattisgarh, Telangana and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The temperature has also reached close to 45 degrees in some areas of Interior Odisha, Rayalaseema, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Gujarat. However, the temperature is relatively low in some parts of the country like the Western Himalayas and the northeastern states, where it remains below 36 degrees.
Heat wave havoc in UP and Rajasthan
Along with the heat, heat wave has also increased the problems of the people in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of heat wave in many parts of these states from April 20 to April 24. There is a possibility of continuous hot winds in many areas of Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh as well as Rajasthan. Especially between 20th and 22nd April, the effect of intense heat and dust storm can be seen in Eastern Rajasthan.
Record temperature in cities of Uttar Pradesh
In many cities of Uttar Pradesh the temperature has been recorded much higher than normal. The mercury reached 43.2 degrees Celsius in Prayagraj, which is about 3 degrees above normal. The highest temperature of 44.6 degrees was recorded in Banda. Apart from this, the temperature was recorded at 43 degrees in Varanasi, 43.1 degrees in Jhansi, 42.8 degrees in Sultanpur and 40.7 degrees in Gorakhpur.
The heat has shown its effect in the capital Lucknow also. For the first time this season, the temperature reached 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was around 24 degrees. The maximum temperature here is likely to reach 42 degrees in the coming days.
little hope for relief
According to the Meteorological Department, at present there is no possibility of rain in any major area. This means that the heat may increase further in the coming days. In such a situation, people have been advised to exercise caution. One should avoid going out especially during the afternoon, drink enough water and wear light clothes.
