Congress’s attack on women’s reservation: “BJP is taking political advantage by linking it with delay and delimitation”

Jaipur. State Congress Committee President Govind Singh Dotasara has made serious allegations against the Central Government on the issue of women’s reservation and delimitation.

In a press conference held at the state Congress headquarters on Sunday, he said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to take political advantage regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, while questions are being raised on its real intentions.

Dotasara said that the Congress party has been in favor of women’s reservation for a long time. This bill was brought in Parliament for the first time in the year 1996 and was also passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010 during the UPA government.

He alleged that BJP and its allies had opposed it at that time. He said that even after the bill was passed in 2023, the central government delayed its implementation and imposed unnecessary conditions linking it to census and delimitation.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took credit for the bill after it was passed, but its gazette notification was not issued for three years.

According to Dotasara, issuing the notification late at night on 16 April 2026 shows the helplessness of the government. He raised the question that if the government is serious about women empowerment then why was the census not conducted on time.

State Congress President also expressed concern about delimitation. He alleged that BJP wants to take political advantage by delimiting on the basis of 2011 census and intends to deprive the OBC category of reservation. He said that if the delimitation is not done in a fair manner then it will affect the federal structure of the country.

The press conference also said that the Congress and India alliance opposed the government’s proposals by raising these issues in Parliament and allegedly foiled the “conspiracy”. Dotasara said that the Congress party will continue the struggle from street to house to give the mother power their rights.

During this, State Mahila Congress President Sarika Singh also accused BJP of ignoring women’s issues. He said that women’s reservation should be implemented with immediate effect. Mahila Congress also announced to run a public awareness campaign and hold rallies across the state regarding this demand.

Congress leaders claimed that in the coming time, a comprehensive campaign will be launched in all the districts of the state regarding women’s rights and reservation, so that the common people can be made aware on this issue.
