New Delhi, 20 April. Many states of the country including North India are in the grip of extreme heat. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a high possibility of heat wave in many parts of North-West, Central and Eastern India in the coming days. At the same time, rain warning has been issued in many states including Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Sikkim.
Heat wave will prevail in these states today
According to the Meteorological Department, a heatwave (heat) warning has been issued in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Western UP, Western Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh till April 23. The temperature has also increased in Delhi and people are troubled by the heat. During the last 24 hours, day maximum temperatures were recorded between 40°C-45°C in Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, East Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Interior Odisha, Rayalaseema, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
45.0°C mercury recorded in Rajnandgaon
Temperatures in the rest of the country are being recorded between 36°C-40°C. On Sunday, the highest temperature in the country was 45.0°C recorded jointly in Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) and Wardha (Vidarbha). The lowest minimum temperature in the plains of India was 19.0°C recorded in Ludhiana (Punjab). Maximum temperatures over northwest India are likely to rise gradually by 2-4°C. Maximum temperatures over East India are likely to rise gradually by 2-3°C during April 20-21.
Temperature recorded at 44.6 degrees in Prayagraj
According to the Meteorological Department, it is extremely hot in Uttar Pradesh. Temperatures in cities like Prayagraj, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Agra, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shahjahanpur and Hardoi were recorded much above normal, which is the beginning of heat wave. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Lucknow are expected to be around 41 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. The highest temperature in UP was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius in Prayagraj, followed by 44.2 degrees Celsius in Varanasi and 43.6 degrees Celsius in Banda. Many other districts including Sultanpur, Barabanki and Bahraich also recorded temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius.
How will the weather be in Delhi?
The sky will be partly cloudy in Delhi today. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to range between 39°C to 41°C and 20°C to 22°C respectively. The minimum temperature will be near normal at most places and the maximum temperature will be above normal at most places in Delhi. There will be light winds during the day.
Where will it rain…
The Meteorological Department said that on April 20, there may be rain and thundershowers in Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. During this period, strong winds will blow at a speed of 30-50 km per hour. There is a possibility of rain in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during April 20-30. There has been a warning of rain and thunder in Bihar on April 23. During this period, storm can blow at a speed of 50-70 km. Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may receive light rain till April 23.
