Alert of stormy rain in these 15 states of the country. Know how the weather will be in your state including UP-Bihar.

New Delhi. Today’s weather, April 20, 2026: Summer has started showing its wrath, but in the meantime, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of stormy rains along with thunderstorms in 15 states. The states where there is a rain alert include all the northeastern states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh. However, severe heat alert has also been issued in many states. There is also an alert of heat wave with severe heat in Chhattisgarh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh along with West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised people to take precautions against heat, especially during the afternoon peak, as heat wave conditions may become more severe in some areas.

Delhi (April 20 to 21): The scorching heat will continue in Delhi. On April 20, the maximum temperature is likely to be 39 degrees to 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum to be 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. During this period the sky will remain cloudy. The minimum temperature will remain near normal at most places. In the morning, winds can blow at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. There is likely to be no significant change in the weather even on April 21.

Uttar Pradesh (April 20 to 21): The Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave alert in Varanasi, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Deoria, Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh on April 20 and 21. Cities including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Agra, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shahjahanpur and Hardoi are recording temperatures well above normal, indicating the onset of heat wave conditions. The maximum temperature is being recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius in Prayagraj, 44.2 degrees Celsius in Varanasi and 43.6 degrees Celsius in Banda. Temperatures in many other districts including Sultanpur, Barabanki and Bahraich are also above 42 degrees Celsius. According to the Lucknow-based Meteorological Centre, the temperature in interior Maharashtra is gradually increasing due to dry westerly winds blowing in the lower troposphere.

Bihar (20 to 23 April): According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of thunderstorm with strong winds (wind speed 50-60 km/hr, which can increase up to 70 km/hr) in Bihar on 23 April. At the same time, according to scientists, there may be scorching sun and hot winds this afternoon (April 20), which will increase the risk of heatstroke. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for eastern parts of Bihar, especially Seemanchal areas.

Madhya Pradesh (April 20 to 25): Light rain with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur over western Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places during April 20 to 22. There is a possibility of light rain or drizzle along with thunder, lightning and lightning in some districts. Along with this, there is an alert that the effect of heat wave (loo) will continue in many other parts of the state.
Heat wave conditions will persist in Ratlam, Umaria, Chhindwara and Mandla districts. If there is not much change in the maximum temperature, then the temperature in Bhopal, Ujjain, Chambal, Rewa, Jabalpur and Sagar divisions may remain 2.4 to 2.9 degrees Celsius higher than normal. According to the Meteorological Department, an upper air cyclone is formed over south-west Rajasthan and eastern Uttar Pradesh, due to which a trough is extending from eastern Uttar Pradesh to south Chhattisgarh. Today (April 20), there is a possibility of isolated rain or drizzle with thunderstorms and lightning in Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Chhindwara and Pandhurna districts, while the weather will remain dry in the rest of the districts. Strong winds can blow at a speed of 30-40 km/hour in these districts. There is a possibility of heat wave in Alirajpur, Jhabua, Ratlam, Guna, Umaria, Dindori, Mandla, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Niwari districts. Bhopal and surrounding areas will be partly cloudy, wind speed is likely to be 8-10 km/hr. There is no possibility of much change in the temperature in the next five days i.e. till April 25.

Maharashtra (April 20 to 21): The Meteorological Department has predicted strong winds and light rain with thunderstorms in some areas of Maharashtra. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of isolated light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning and strong winds (up to the speed of 30-40 km per hour) over Coastal Maharashtra during April 20 to 21 and Central Maharashtra and Marathwada during April 20 to 23.
