7 years wait is over! Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Germany, is there going to be any big defense deal?
Tomorrow is going to be a very historic day for the Indian defense sector. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be on an official visit to Germany from 21 to 23 April. This visit is also special because this is the first visit of any Indian Defense Minister to Germany in the last seven years. The main objective of this three-day visit is to take the defense relations between India and Germany to a new height and further strengthen the strategic partnership.
What will be the agenda of this high-profile meeting?
According to information received from the Defense Ministry, Rajnath Singh will hold intensive bilateral talks with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius and other senior leaders there. The biggest focus of this discussion will be to promote defense industrial cooperation. Both the countries will not only talk about strengthening military ties but will also explore possibilities of joining hands with each other in the field of future technology such as cyber security, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern drone technology.
‘Make in India’ will get support from Germany
Another big news may come out during this tour. It is expected that the ‘Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap’ will be signed in the presence of both the Defense Ministers. In addition, a special arrangement could also be implemented for cooperation in training of United Nations peacekeeping operations. Rajnath Singh will also meet big giants associated with Germany’s defense industry. The purpose of this conversation is to promote joint development and co-production of weapons under Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiative.
The wait is ending after 7 years
Let us tell you that this visit of the Defense Minister is taking place after a long gap of seven years. The last time the then Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Germany was in February 2019. Although, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had visited India last year in June 2023, but now Rajnath Singh’s visit is expected to bring a new warmth in relations. This visit is not only diplomatically important, but will also become a major means of bringing Germany’s modern technology closer to India’s defense needs.
