Jailer 2 shooting wrapped: Everything we know about Rajinikanth’s film
Rajinikanth wasted no time. Just ten days after the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Cooliehe joined the sets of Jailer 2. Now, Sun Pictures has confirmed that the shoot is a wrap, releasing pictures from the celebration that featured director Nelson Dilipkumar, Rajinikanth, producer Jaffer Sadiq, and the core crew.
Dead man returns?
What immediately caught the attention of fans is the presence of Vasanth Ravi in those pictures. In the first part, he played Arjun, an inspector who turns out to be the mastermind behind the villain and ultimately gets killed by his own father, Muthuvel Pandian. His appearance on set strongly hints at a flashback portion in the sequel. This lines up with an earlier confirmation from Vinayakan, who played the main villain, that he too will be returning in a flashback. Together, these updates suggest Jailer 2 will pick up directly from where the first part ended.

Vijay Sethupathi’s exception to his own rule
Vijay Sethupathi had publicly stated he would no longer take up cameos or antagonist roles. Jailer 2 is his exception. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Sethupathi confirmed his involvement, saying he did it purely out of love and respect for Rajinikanth, adding that being around a superstar who has sustained himself in the industry for decades is an education in itself.
Heavyweight additions to the sequel
The original Jailer drew considerable buzz from its star-studded cameos, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff all made appearances. The sequel is doubling down on that formula. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are confirmed to be returning. Joining them is Mithun Chakraborty, one of Bollywood’s most iconic names, who is set to make his presence felt in the film.

Known for his charisma and screen authority, from his disco-era stardom to his acclaimed work in films like Mrigayaa, Mithun brings a weight to the ensemble that will likely thrill fans across generations. SJ Suryah, no stranger to high-voltage performances, is also part of the cast.
‘Super’ deal before the first show
Even before Jailer 2 hits theatres, it has reportedly made history off-screen. Industry sources suggest Amazon Prime Video has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights for a staggering ₹160 crore across all languages, the biggest OTT deal in Kollywood history. To put that in perspective, the original Jailer was picked up for ₹75 crore, and Coolie for ₹120 crore. No official confirmation has come from Sun Pictures or Amazon about the deal.
What could the story look like?
The seeds were planted at the end of Jailer. Before his defeat, Varman warns Muthuvel Pandian that his network is international, and that enemies will come from every corner. The teaser of Jailer 2 appears to deliver on exactly that threat, showing an arsenal of adversaries closing in on Rajinikanth’s character from all sides. With flashbacks, returning villains, and a global threat in play, the sequel is shaping up to be a larger, more expansive chapter in the Jailer universe.
