Keralam: 13 dead so far in Thrissur fire; PM Modi expressed grief, announced compensation

PM Modi Announces Compensation Thrissur: The death toll at a firecracker warehouse in Mundathicode in Thrissur district in Kerala state has risen to 13. While giving information, Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) said that the condition of 5 other people remains critical. This incident has created a stir in the entire district. Kerala Health Minister Veena George took stock of the situation and informed about the matter.

PMO tweeted, ‘Saddened to hear the news of loss of lives due to an accident at a firecracker factory in Thrissur, Kerala. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May God pray that the injured people recover as soon as possible.”

PM Modi announced compensation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over this accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given from the PMNRF to the next of kin of each person who lost their lives in the incident at a firecracker storage facility in Mundathicode in Thrissur district. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured.

Thrissur: Teams of doctors deployed

Kerala Health Minister Veena George said, ‘The explosion in the firecracker warehouse in Thrissur is very sad. Specialist medical treatment is being ensured for those who have suffered burns or injuries. Treatment arrangements have been made at Thrissur Medical College, General Hospital and other nearby hospitals.”

The Health Minister further said, “Mass Casualty Protocol’ (Mass Casualty Protocol) has been activated, and the burn unit has been fully prepared. Additional staff have also been deployed. Teams of specialist doctors from medical colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Kozhikode will also arrive to assist in treatment.”
