Massive Explosion At Firecracker Warehouse In Keralam: Massive explosion in firecracker warehouse in Keralam, 13 people died, preparations were going on for ‘Thrissur Pooram’ festival


New Delhi. There has been a massive explosion in a firecracker warehouse in Kerala in which many people have lost their lives. The accident took place in a firecracker warehouse located at Mundathicode in Thrissur district. The explosion was so powerful that many people present there were torn to pieces. The Keralam State Disaster Management Authority had earlier confirmed 8 deaths. Later the death toll increased to 13. Many other people have been injured in this accident, some of whom are in critical condition. It is being told that 40 people were present in the warehouse at the time of the incident.

After the explosion, a massive fire broke out in the warehouse. As soon as information about the incident was received, the fire brigade team reached there and started extinguishing the fire. People trapped in the warehouse are being rescued. The injured are being sent to the hospital through ambulance. Some of the injured have been admitted to Thrissur Medical College while some are undergoing treatment in other hospitals. The police have cordoned off the warehouse and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. This accident happened amid preparations for ‘Thrissur Pooram’ festival. These firecrackers were ordered for this festival. Thrissur Pooram is the grandest and famous annual temple festival of Kerala. It started in the 18th century. This festival is celebrated in April-May at Vadakkunathan Temple in Thrissur.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has expressed grief over the incident of explosion in a fireworks warehouse. He informed that specialist medical treatment is being ensured for the injured. Treatment arrangements have been made at Thrissur Medical College, General Hospital and other nearby hospitals. Mass casualty protocol has been activated at the medical college and the burn unit is fully prepared. Additional staff have been deployed in hospitals. Teams of specialist doctors from medical colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Kozhikode are also arriving to assist in the treatment.
