  • Historic partnership between Cognizant and OpenAI
  • Codex will revolutionize software engineering

India, April, 2026: Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH ) announced that it has been named among a select group of partners selected by OpenAI to measure the impact of Codex on enterprise clients worldwide. Cognizant is embedding Codex directly into its engineering workflow within its software engineering group with the goal of building a standardized capability for how Cognizant builds and delivers software.

OpenAI works with a group of leading global systems integrators selected for their ability to deploy and scale codecs in complex enterprise environments and deliver services to customers enabled by those capabilities. Cognizant’s selection reflects its track record as an AI builder: designing, deploying and operating AI-powered systems at enterprise scale, across industries and within its own operations.

“The best engineering organizations of the next decade will not be defined by how many engineers they have, but by how effectively they function as human judgment and AI capabilities,” said Rajesh Warrier, president (global operations) and chairman and managing director, Cognizant India. OpenAI is primarily based on intelligence. Cognizant brings the enterprise scale, deep industry expertise and administrative rigor required by the industry.”

Cognizant engineers are already applying Codex across the software development lifecycle in client engagements, including AI and machine learning model development, code refactoring, agentic solution development and legacy system modernization. This demonstrates Codex’s ability to help accelerate deployment delivery cycles, support improved code quality, and help reduce the cost and risk of large-scale modernization programs, including legacy transformation work that has historically stalled for years due to complexity, regulatory risk, and tribal knowledge dependency.

“Codex is becoming a powerful framework for managing agents in software development and business workflows. As the industry moves rapidly to implement Codex, we’re working with leading partners like Cognizant to help more organizations move from early adoption to repeatable deployment,” said Dennis Dresser, Chief Revenue Officer, OpenAI. Cognizant’s deep expertise in large-scale software transformation enables enterprises to deploy Codex in areas such as legacy code modernization, code review automation, vulnerability detection and application development, while its impact extends to the systems and workflows where Cognizant works. We will work together to bring the Codex to organizations around the world “.

This partnership adds OpenAI’s Codex capabilities to Cognizant’s AI Builder stack, which includes leading AI platforms and hyperscalers. Cognizant’s AI Builder strategy is built on the premise that bridging the gap between AI investment and business outcomes requires more than entering the frontier model, requiring accountability for enterprise context, workflow integration and delivery into production, and operational integration.

Through this partnership, Cognizant and OpenAI aim to work together to bring AI-driven engineering, modernization, and security compliance capabilities to customers across industries, with a focus on reducing complexity, accelerating delivery, and building the administrative rigor needed for enterprise scale adoption.
