20 people defrauded of Rs 1 crore, honey trap gang exposed; 5 including 4 women arrested

In Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, police have busted a gang that cheats people of money through honey trap. Five accused have been arrested in this action. According to the police, this gang used to extort money from people by luring them into love trap. Police officials said that this matter came to light when a youth lodged a complaint. Investigation revealed that the accused used to call people on some pretext and misbehave with them and then blackmail them and demand money. In this case, information also came to light that this gang had defrauded 20 people of about ₹ 1 crore.

 

According to the police, in honey trap a person is trapped out of love or greed. Then his objectionable photo or video is made and money is extorted by threatening to make it viral. In this case also the accused were using the same method. They would first lure people into their trap by talking sweetly and then would scare them and ask for money.

This is how the whole matter was revealed

The matter came to light on April 18, when a youth from Bengaluru lodged a complaint. He told that a woman took him to a house on the pretext of drone survey. Other people present there beat her up, made her remove her clothes and took objectionable photographs of her. After this, four lakh rupees were demanded by threatening to kill him. Due to fear the victim gave the money.

Had made 20 people victims

Investigation has revealed that this gang has already made many people its victims. According to the police, so far around Rs 1 crore has been recovered from about 20 people. Police have recovered Rs 13 lakh in cash, documents of suspicious transactions and two knives from the accused. All five accused have been arrested and investigation into the case is ongoing. Police said that many cases were already registered against the main accused, which clearly shows that this gang had been carrying out such crimes for a long time.
