Violence flares up again in Manipur: Bloody war between Naga and Kuki groups in Ukhrul, 3 killed; burnt down many houses

Manipur Ukhrul District Clash Between Naga And Kuki: Violence is not stopping in Manipur. A case of violent clash has come to light on Friday, at least three people have been killed in separate firing incidents between armed groups of Naga and Kuki tribal communities in Ukhrul district while many people are reported to be injured. Police say the violence took place near Mullam village in the affected district and security forces have recovered two bodies.

Notably, Ukhrul district shares inter-state border with Nagaland and international border with Myanmar. This area is mainly populated by Tangkhul Naga community. The two people killed in the incident have been identified as L. Sitalho and P. Haolai, whose bodies were found dressed in camouflage clothing and with bullet wounds. During the violence, many houses in the hill village were also set on fire.

Two volunteers of Kuki village were killed

Kuki Women’s Organization for Human Rights has strongly condemned the attack on the peaceful Kuki villages of Mullam and Shongphal in Ukhrul district, allegedly by an armed Tangkhul Naga group. The organization in its statement alleged that the attack was well-planned, targeting unarmed villagers while they were sleeping in their homes. According to the organization, the attackers set fire to two houses and injured many people, including women and children. Additionally, two volunteers from Kuki village engaged in community security were also killed.

Villagers killed an attacker

Kuki Women’s Organization for Human Rights also informed in its statement that the villagers used licensed weapons for self-defense and killed one of the attackers.

Tangkhul Nagas organization made this claim

Tangkhul Naga Long, the apex body of Tangkhul Nagas in Manipur, claimed that armed Kuki militants killed a Naga village guard, Horshokmi Jamang, in Sinakeithei village of Ukhrul district on Friday. His body was later recovered.
