Drug Free India Campaign App 2.0 will be launched, campaign against drugs will get digital strength

New Delhi, 24 April. To reduce the demand for drugs, the Central Government is going to launch the upgraded version of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) App 2.0. This initiative is considered a major step towards further strengthening monitoring and institutional coordination under the National Action Plan (NAPDDR).

Expansion of nationwide campaign

The Drug Free India campaign was launched on August 15, 2020 in 272 sensitive districts, which was expanded to all the districts of the country from August 15, 2023. The objective of this campaign is to spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs and make the society drug free.

The campaign reached crores of people

Till now, more than 26 crore people have been made aware through more than 8.3 lakh activities across the country. This includes more than 9.5 crore youth, 6.47 crore women and more than 28,000 trained volunteers who are carrying forward the campaign at the grassroots level.

Surveillance will be strengthened through digital platform

NMBA App 2.0 has been developed as a centralized digital platform that will ensure real-time reporting and coordination between implementing agencies at the national, state, district and institutional levels. It will also promote data based governance, transparency and accountability.

Citizens will get new facilities

Facilities like taking e-pledge, viewing IEC material, getting helpline assistance and getting information about the nearest de-addiction center have been added to the upgraded app for common citizens.

Exclusive access and tracking for institutions

Grant-Aided Institutions (GIA) will be given role-based access to the app, allowing them to do real-time reporting of their activities. Additionally, the status of the grant can also be tracked, which will increase transparency in the utilization of funds.

Helpline and feedback system also included

Through the app, users will be able to easily access services like de-addiction helpline and ‘Manas’ helpline. Apart from this, through the feedback mechanism the general public will be able to share their opinions, which will enable continuous improvement of the programme.

Big step towards digital governance

The launch of NMBA App 2.0 shows that the government is making maximum use of digital platforms and is committed to strengthening the institutional framework to achieve the goal of a drug-free India.
