In today’s digital age, followers on social media are often considered a means of measuring a person’s popularity. According to statistics, after his sudden entry into the BJP, in less than 24 hours, Chadha has lost nearly one million i.e. one million followers on Instagram.

One million people ‘unfollowed’ him

According to available information, Raghav Chadha had 1.46 crore i.e. 14.6 million followers on Instagram on Friday. By 1 pm on Saturday, the figure had dropped to 1.35 crore, i.e. 13.5 million. In other words, in less than 24 hours, nearly a million people have ‘unfollowed’ him. Currently, the hashtag #unfollowRaghavChadha is ‘trending’ on social media. Young voters are expressing their anger through this medium and terming Chadha’s action as “betrayal”.

Can even bring it to zero overnight

NCP (SP) spokesperson Anish Gawande tweeted, “Due to the ‘Gen Z Unfollow’ campaign currently going viral on Instagram, Raghav Chadha has lost 1 million followers in just 24 hours.” He further noted, “The Internet can make you a ‘hero’ overnight. Also, the Internet can make you a zero overnight.”

‘Cleaning’ of anti-Modi posts

The talk in the political circles is that after joining the BJP, Raghav Chadha promptly deleted old posts from his social media accounts that were critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has claimed that there are only two posts left on Chadha’s timeline that mention Modi, and both of those posts are in praise of the Prime Minister.

Created a different place in youth but…

By raising ‘soft issues’ such as paternity leave, challenges faced by ‘gig workers’ and the concept of ’10-minute delivery’, Raghav Chadha had carved a niche for himself among the youth. He even worked as a delivery partner of ‘Blinkit’ for a day. This image of an ‘accessible’ leader set him apart from conventional politicians. However, his decision to join hands with the BJP has disappointed a large section of his supporters.

Despite being removed from the post of Deputy Leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha, Chadha enjoyed huge support. The AAP MP, who is the husband of Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra, also shared a ‘reel’ on Instagram; In which one user suggested that Chadha should form his own ‘Gen Z party’.
