Heat in Bihar politics. On Samrat Chaudhary’s ‘grandfather’ statement..
The politics of Bihar has once again heated up, where a big political controversy has arisen over a statement by the new Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. Congress reacted sharply to his statement in the Assembly, “Power is not anyone’s inheritance”, calling it an insult to former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Patna: In Bihar politics, political rhetoric has intensified after the assembly majority test held on Friday (April 24). Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, in his address after securing majority in the House, enumerated the achievements of the government and made a scathing attack on the opposition. He said that power is not anyone’s “inheritance”.
Congress has expressed objection to this statement on Saturday (April 25). The party says that former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been insulted through this comment, because he has been the Chief Minister 10 times in the last 20 years.
Controversy after majority and statement in the assembly
On Friday (April 24), Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary won majority in the Bihar Assembly. In his address, he mentioned the achievements of the government and targeted the opposition fiercely. During this time, he said that “power is not anyone’s inheritance”, due to which a political controversy started. Congress has lodged a strong protest linking this statement directly to Nitish Kumar. Bihar Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathore said that since becoming the Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary is constantly trying to prove himself better than Nitish Kumar.
He alleged that such statements were an insult to the long political tenure of Nitish Kumar, who has held the post of chief minister several times in the last two decades. Congress says that Nitish Kumar is an experienced and established leader in Bihar politics, and his contribution cannot be underestimated by such statements.
Political conflict increases over “Bapauti” statement
The root of the controversy is the statement of Samrat Chaudhary, in which he had said that power cannot be anyone’s personal property. The opposition has seen his statement as an indirect comment on Nitish Kumar. Congress alleges that this statement reflects political arrogance and is an attempt to show weakness to the senior leadership of Bihar.
Amidst this controversy, Congress has also raised questions on the administrative statements of the Chief Minister. Rajesh Rathore said that monitoring of police stations and circles from the Chief Minister’s residence shows that the situation of corruption at the ground level is serious. He claimed that if now monitoring has to be done from the Chief Minister level, then it also raises questions on the administrative structure of the previous governments.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav had also raised this issue. Commenting on Samrat Chaudhary, he had said that he has been associated with “Lalu’s school”. In response to this, the Chief Minister hit back and said that some people consider power as their property, whereas it is a responsibility received with the blessings of 14 crore Biharis.
