The Indian Army is now moving rapidly towards becoming more lethal and modern than ever before. Recognizing the challenges and necessity of future wars Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) A special ‘Armoured’ platform has been developed. Designed specifically by the Vehicle Research and Development Foundation (VRDE), this indigenous vehicle will be a ‘game-changer’ for the Indian Armed Forces.

State-of-the-art firepower and ‘cruelless turret’

Developed under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission, the biggest distinguishing feature of this armored vehicle is its advanced firepower. The vehicle is fitted with a 30 mm ‘Cruless Turret’, which is coupled to a 7.62 mm PKT gun. Interestingly, the vehicle is also fully capable of firing Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM). This will make it easier for the Indian Army to destroy enemy tanks in the battlefield.

High speed even in remote areas

The engine and transmission of this vehicle is very powerful, which makes it easy to run on any challenging terrain.

70 percent indigenous fabrication and cooperation with private companies

The most important feature of this project is its indigenization. Currently, more than 70 percent Indian spare parts are used in this vehicle. DRDO aims to make the vehicle 100 percent ‘Made in India’ soon. Many micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) including giants such as Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited have contributed greatly to its creation.

Why is this vehicle important to the military?

This vehicle has been highly versatile as various modifications can be made as per the military requirements.
