Raghav chadha: Chandigarh, April 26, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday staged strong protests in every district of Punjab against the Rajya Sabha members who joined BJP. roads “Traitor of Punjab” Slogans were echoed and “traitor” was written on the walls of the defectors’ houses in anger, calling it an unforgivable betrayal of Punjab’s mandate.
Violent demonstrations across the state, expressed anger by burning tires
From district headquarters to industrial centres, including a massive protest against Rajinder Gupta outside the Trident Group, AAP leaders and workers along with a large number of common people held protests. The protesters expressed their anger by burning tires and openly condemned those who have allegedly violated the trust of Punjabis for political gains.
Raghav chadha: Demand to cancel membership of MPs intensifies
Terming the defection as a big betrayal of the soil and self-respect of Punjab, AAP demanded that the Rajya Sabha membership of these MPs be immediately cancelled. The party made it clear that the people of Punjab will never accept those who have sided with BJP due to pressure and opportunism.
Raghav chadha: Allegations of ‘Operation Lotus’, questions on central agencies
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO strongly condemned the defectors and said that Rajya Sabha is meant to be the voice of the state in Parliament. These members were sent to raise the issues of Punjab, but instead of fulfilling their responsibility, they joined the BJP. He alleged that BJP included these leaders in the party by threatening ED and CBI under ‘Operation Lotus’.
Conspiracy to destabilize the opposition: Kataruchak
Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said that these MPs were elected with the support of AAP MLAs, but they have backstabbed the state and the party. He called it BJP’s strategy to destabilize opposition governments.
Sharp attack on ‘horse-trading politics’
During the protest in Lehragaga, Cabinet Minister Barinder Goyal accused the BJP of indulging in horse-trading politics. He said that the departure of these leaders had no impact on the party, rather their real face had come to light.
‘His name will be recorded in history as a traitor’
MLA Balkar Singh Sidhu said that the names of these leaders will be written in history as traitors. He said that the party gave him recognition and position, but he did not live up to the trust.
‘Misuse of mandate’
MLA Maninder Singh Giyaspura said that these MPs were not directly elected by the public, but were sent to Rajya Sabha on the basis of the mandate received by AAP. He reiterated the demand for termination of their membership.
AAP claims unity, big allegation on BJP
Raghav chadha: AAP leaders said that the party is strong and united from the state leadership to the grassroots level. Describing this entire incident as a part of BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’, he alleged that its objective is to hinder the development work of the AAP government in Punjab.
