“Only Rafale deployment left in Bengal…”, Abhishek Banerjee’s taunt amid voting

Tezzbuzz Desk- Voting on 142 assembly seats under the second phase in West Bengal is going on amid tight security arrangements. Long queues of voters were seen outside the polling stations since morning, which shows the active participation of the public in this phase. The voting process is progressing peacefully in Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman districts.

The Election Commission has deployed 2,321 companies of central security forces to ensure fair and smooth voting. Apart from this, a large number of general, police and expenditure observers have also been deployed. Many sensitive areas are being monitored through drones, so that any disturbance can be stopped immediately.

However, the ruling All India Trinamool Congress has expressed displeasure over this heavy security arrangement. Party leader Abhishek Banerjee taunted that the deployment of security forces in the state is excessive. He alleged that such a huge force should be deployed on the borders and not inside the state.

At the same time, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also raised questions on the election process. He said the presence of external observers and administrative actions could influence the election. He alleged that his party’s posters have been removed and an atmosphere of fear is being created among the voters at some places.

A total of 3.21 crore voters are exercising their franchise in this phase, which includes 1.57 crore women and 792 transgenders. 41,001 polling booths have been made for voting.

It is noteworthy that in the first phase of voting held on April 23, a record 93.19 percent voting was recorded. Most of these 142 seats were won by Trinamool Congress in the 2021 elections. This time also the contest on Bhawanipur seat is being considered very interesting.

Overall, this election phase of West Bengal is very important politically, where the celebration of democracy continues amidst security, allegations and heavy turnout.
