Ganga Expressway Inauguration: PM Narendra Modi today gifted its longest expressway to Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister inaugurated the 594 km long Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway from Mallawan in Hardoi district.
This expressway will not only give a new impetus to the economic development of UP, but it is also being considered as the “lifeline” of the state. This project will connect 12 districts and about 518 villages, directly connecting western and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Will reach Prayagraj in 6-7 hours
With the opening of the expressway, the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj will reduce to about 6–7 hours. This is expected to directly benefit the industry, trade and agriculture sector. Besides, religious tourism like Sangam and Kashi will also get a boost. The total cost of this project is said to be around Rs 36,320 crore.
What did PM Modi say?
At the inauguration ceremony held in Hardoi, Prime Minister Modi said that this “boon” of the expressway to Uttar Pradesh is the blessing of Mother Ganga. He said that this expressway will set a new direction for the development of the state and will help people reach religious places like Sangam and Kashi in less time. With this expressway, Uttar Pradesh has become the state with the largest expressway network in the country, which reflects its rapidly growing infrastructure capacity.
targeted the opposition
In the inaugural programme, PM Modi targeted the opposition and said that in earlier times there used to be a lot of delay in development works. He said that there was a time when people had to wait for decades for roads to be constructed.
According to the Prime Minister, earlier projects were only announced and the files kept going on for years. At the time of elections, the foundation stone was laid, but no concrete result of completion of the work was visible.
