Major action by Mayurpur police, inter-provincial gambling gang exposed

Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Sonbhadra Abhishek Verma, under the direction of Superintendent of Police Sonbhadra Abhishek Verma, under the able guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police (Operation) Rishabh Runwal and close supervision of Area Officer Duddhi Rajesh Kumar Rai, 20 accused have been arrested for gambling by taking effective action by the Myorpur police station.

On 03.05.2026, the police team of Police Station Head, Myorpur was present in Chowki Lilasi area during the field visit/checking under Operation All Out. Meanwhile, information was received from the informer that 18-20 people were gambling in village Kudri (Bhadhar Tola) by betting on winning and losing with playing cards. Believing the information, the police team immediately reached the spot and cordoned off a raid and arrested a total of 20 persons from the spot.

On the basis of the above arrest and recovery, necessary legal action is being taken against the accused by registering a case under FIR No. 59/2026 Section 13 Gambling Act at Mayorpur police station. The recovered vehicles have been seized under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

During interrogation, the accused told that they are known to each other and from time to time they come together and gamble with the help of playing cards by betting on winning or losing money. Even on the day of the incident, all the accused were gambling in the light of battery light by spreading a tarpaulin in a deserted place in village Kudri (Bhadhar Tola). It was told by the accused that they deliberately choose such places where there is less public traffic, so as to avoid the attention of the police, and also keep the vehicles hidden nearby.

During interrogation it also came to light that some accused come from other districts/states and get involved in this activity. And Rajesh Kumar, son of Hariprasad, resident of village Kudri, police station Mayorpur district, Sonbhadra, is the main operator/leader of this gang, who used to gather other accused and make arrangements for gambling. The police is intensively collecting information regarding this entire network and also about the criminal history of all the accused, so that such activities can be effectively curbed.

Cash amount from the accused (from Phad) – ₹ 2,09,700/-, Cash from Jama search – ₹ 24,600/-, Packs of cards – 03 (52 cards each), Mobile phones – 17 nos. Android and 03 nos Keypad mobiles, 04 four-wheeler vehicles (Brezza, Kia, WagonR, Ertiga without valid documents, Section Seized under 207 MV Act) recovered.
