Sinner beats Zverev to win Madrid Open, fifth consecutive Masters title
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated German player Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 in the final of Madrid Open. With this one-sided victory in just 58 minutes, Sinner created history by winning the ATP Masters 1000 title for the fifth consecutive time. No one had achieved such a feat after 1990.
Sinner maintained his dominance from the beginning of the match. He broke Zverev early and converted all four break points without conceding any break points himself. He maintained excellent control from the baseline, winning 93 percent of the points on the first serve.
Sinner’s performance since October last year has been worth watching. The nine Masters 1000 titles include Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and now Madrid. In these he lost very few sets.
“I started brilliantly and broke his serve. Played aggressively. Happy to be at this level, this title is incredible,” Sinner said.
Sinner, who became the first player to win all four Masters this season, is now one step away from the ‘Career Golden Masters’. He can do this feat on home ground in the Rome Masters, where only Novak Djokovic has reached.
