Ranveer, Samay reunite after Latent row
Mumbai: Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina have reunited on-screen for the first time since the India’s Got Latent controversy, appearing together on The Great Indian Kapil Show.
The reunion comes nearly a year after the controversy that sparked widespread backlash and legal scrutiny.
Nervous return to comedy stage
Ahead of the episode’s release, Ranveer shared a behind-the-scenes vlog on his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, documenting his return to a comedy platform.
Admitting to feeling anxious, he said he was “scared” about stepping back into a comedy show environment after the controversy.
“Bahut darr lag raha hai… because we are returning to a comedy show,” he said, adding that appearing on a show associated with Kapil Sharma made it even more significant.
Candid moments and industry reactions
The vlog captures several interactions from the set, including Ranveer meeting Samay’s friend Balraj Singh Ghai and reminiscing about earlier stand-up circuits in Mumbai.
He also interacted with veteran comedian Sunil Pal, who praised his podcast on camera and expressed interest in appearing on it.
In a humorous edit, the vlog juxtaposes this praise with a clip of Sunil Pal criticising Ranveer during the peak of the controversy—highlighting how public perception has evolved.
Reunion with Samay
Ranveer and Samay’s reunion formed the emotional core of the vlog. The two recreated their viral Latent photograph on set, symbolically marking closure.
“We are celebrating our one-year anniversary,” Ranveer remarked, referring to the timeline since the controversy erupted.
Samay added a light-hearted note, saying the recreation should be the last, signalling an end to that chapter. The moment concluded with the two sharing a hug.
Documentary to revisit controversy
Towards the end of the vlog, Ranveer announced that he will release a detailed documentary next month chronicling the India’s Got Latent row.
“Everything that happened every day during the controversy has been recorded,” he said, adding that he hopes to “bury this whole controversy” and move forward.
Background of the row
The controversy began during an episode of India’s Got Latent, where Ranveer asked an offensive question to a contestant, triggering backlash online.
The fallout extended to others associated with the show, including Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, and Jaspreet Singh.
Multiple FIRs were filed, and Samay was asked to remove episodes of the show from YouTube, intensifying the situation.
Conclusion
The reunion of Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina marks a significant moment following a turbulent year. With a documentary in the works, Ranveer appears set on addressing the controversy head-on and closing that chapter as both creators move forward in their careers.
