The contest on Sonarpur South seat was considered very interesting, where BJP candidate and famous actress Roopa Ganguly defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Arundhati Maitra by 35 thousand votes. According to the Election Commission report, Roopa Ganguly has got a total of 1 lakh 28 thousand 970 votes.

The political journey was like this
Actress turned politician Roopa Ganguly started her political journey by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2015. In a very short time, she became one of the prominent women faces of the party in West Bengal. From 2015 to 2017, she was active as the President of BJP Mahila Morcha in West Bengal. After this, in the West Bengal elections 2016, Roopa contested from Howrah North seat, in which she had to face defeat. She was a Rajya Sabha MP from 2016 to 2022.
Personal life was full of ups and downs
The personal life of Roopa Ganguly, who achieved immense success and popularity on camera, was full of ups and downs. In 1992, he married Dhruba Mukherjee, but with time the rift in the relationship increased and the couple separated in 2006. Later they were formally divorced. He has a son, Akash Mukherjee, from this marriage.
Later, in a TV show, the actress herself revealed that after separating from her husband, she lived in a live-in relationship with singer Dibyendu, who was younger than her. However, this relationship also could not last long and both of them got separated.
