Tata Motors Launches Ultra Diesel Editions Of Harrier & Safari

Tata Motors today launched the Ultra Red Dark Editions in the diesel variants of their popular SUVs, the Harrier and Safari, in the market. The Ultra diesel variant of the Harrier has been launched at a starting price of Rs 23.84 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Safari Ultra diesel Red Dark Edition starts at Rs 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Earlier, Tata was only offering the Ultra variants with the newly introduced turbo-petrol engines. The prices mentioned here are for the diesel manual variants only. Bookings for the Ultra diesel variants have already started, and you can do so by either visiting the nearest dealership or booking online.

Tata has based these variants on the top-end trims, and they sit above the Fearless variant. Compared to the regular top-end trims, the Ultra Red Dark Edition variants of the Harrier and Safari come with a 36.9 cm cinematic infotainment system by Harman. They also get a Samsung Neo QLED screen. Another addition is Dolby Atmos-powered cinematic audio, along with VisioneX E-IRVM with a built-in dashcam and DVR, VisionSync memory ORVMs with auto reverse dip, a ClearView dual camera washer, and built-in navigation with Mappls Auto.

The Harrier and the Safari are among the most popular SUVs in Tata’s lineup. These SUVs, like any Tata product, are known for their sturdy build quality, premium looks, and features.

Both the Harrier and Safari received an update a couple of years ago, and as part of that update, Tata equipped them with premium features like ADAS, seat ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, a large touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, and more.

The Tata Harrier is a 5-seater SUV, while the Safari is the 7-seater version of the same. The SUVs were initially available with a diesel engine only. They use a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which Tata calls Kryojet. This engine generates 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque and is available with both manual and automatic transmission options.

With rising competition and stricter emission norms, Tata was forced to work on a petrol engine. After years of development, they introduced the in-house developed 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with the Sierra first. The same engine was later introduced in the Harrier and Safari, but in a different state of tune. In these SUVs, the turbo-petrol engine generates 170 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque.

Both the Tata Harrier and Safari are sturdy SUVs. The facelifted versions currently on sale were tested by Bharat NCAP, and both received a 5-star rating. In adult occupant safety, the SUVs scored 30.08 points out of 32, and in child occupant safety, they scored 44.54 out of 49 points.

Coming to pricing, the Tata Harrier currently starts at Rs 12.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 25.35 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Safari starts at Rs 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 26.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The automatic variants of the newly launched Ultra Red Dark Edition are expected to be priced slightly above the current top-end trims of both SUVs.
