Rahul looks in great form in IPL 2026. Last month, he played a explosive inning of 152 not out in 64 balls against Punjab Kings. Although the team lost that match, this inning of Rahul once again showed how dangerous a batsman he is in T20 cricket.
I was not considered a T20 player: Rahul
During a conversation on Jiostar’s show Superstars, Rahul recalled his journey. He said, ‘About 10 years ago I wanted to be a part of the T20 team at any cost. At that time I was neither considered a T20 player nor a good white-ball batsman. I had got the tag of only a Test player.
‘I improved my game a lot’
Rahul further said that it was not easy to get out of this image, but I continuously improved my game. I worked on my white-ball cricket and to reach here today is a matter of pride for me. During this time I also made mistakes, but I tried to give my best every time.
Did not play T20 for India after 2022
Rahul has not played T20 International for India since 2022, but he remains an important part of the ODI and Test team. He said that there are ups and downs in the game and the player should learn to accept it.
Rahul also spoke openly about his personal life. He told that after becoming a father, there has been a big change in both his thinking and playing. Rahul and his wife Athiya Shetty became parents of a daughter last year.
When I see my daughter, I forget all my pain.
He said, ‘Becoming a father is the most beautiful experience of my life. When I see my daughter, I forget all the tension, hurt and problems. This has also had a positive impact on my game. Rahul believes that now he is able to enjoy cricket more and overthinking has reduced.
