Former Indian Under-19 and Punjab medium pace bowler Amanpreet Singh Gill passed away in Chandigarh on Wednesday. Amanpreet breathed his last at the age of 36. Amanpreet, who was Virat Kohli’s teammate at the Under-19 level, played six first-class matches for Punjab between 2006 and 2008 and took 11 wickets. He was also a member of Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in the first season of IPL and later served as a member of Punjab’s senior selection committee.

Punjab Cricket Association said, “Punjab Cricket Association deeply condoles the tragic demise of former Punjab cricketer and senior Punjab selection committee member Amanpreet Singh Gill. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.”

Yuvraj Singh tweeted paying tribute to Amanpreet Singh Gill. Yuvi wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear the demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill. We shared the dressing room in our early days. He was a quiet, hard-working cricketer who loved the game very much.”

Gill played several youth ODI matches and one three-day youth “Test” for India in 2007. During this period he toured England, Malaysia and Sri Lanka with the team. However, he did not get a place in the Kohli-led Indian team that won the 2008 Under-19 World Cup.
