Gutkha and pan masala banned in Jharkhand, government issued strict order
New Delhi: Jharkhand government has taken a big decision keeping public health in mind. The manufacturing, storage, sale and distribution of gutkha and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine has been immediately banned in the state. An order in this regard has been issued under the signature of Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department, Ajay Kumar Singh.
Ban on selling products under any name
According to media reports, it has been clearly stated in the order that this ban will be applicable on every product which is being sold in the market under any name. If tobacco or nicotine is found in it then it will be considered banned. Many times companies sell Gutkha-Pan Masala by changing the name. Now action will be taken against all such products.
The ban will remain in effect for one year
The state government has taken this step under Section 30 (2) (A) of the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006. Besides, the rules of Food Safety and Standards Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales Regulation 2011 have also been implemented. This ban will remain effective for one year from the date of issue of the order.
Strict action will be taken if caught
The government order has warned that during this period, if Gutkha or Pan Masala containing banned tobacco and nicotine is caught anywhere, then strict action will be taken as per law. Shopkeeper, stockist or manufacturing company, no one will be able to survive.
Necessary steps for public health
It is noteworthy that the state government believes that tobacco and nicotine are extremely dangerous for health. Due to these, cancer, mouth and lung diseases are increasing rapidly. The trend of Gutkha-Pan Masala among the youth is a matter of concern.
This decision has been taken to stop this. The health department will now intensify raids in the districts. Before Jharkhand, many states have banned Gutkha. This step of the government is being considered important in saving people from tobacco addiction.
