Suvendu Adhikari Will Be The New Chief Minister Of West Bengal Bjp Legislature Party Elected Leader
Bharatiya Janata Party, which has succeeded in bringing about a change in the political power of West Bengal, has elected Suvendu Adhikari as the leader of the legislative party. With this, it is now almost certain that he will become the ninth Chief Minister of the state. This decision was taken in the legislature party meeting held in Kolkata on Friday after BJP’s historic victory in the 2026 assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present in the meeting as a central observer. The BJP leadership had given him the responsibility of monitoring the process of electing the leader of the legislature party. Suvendu Adhikari has proved himself to be a big face of state politics in the recent elections. In 2021, he had defeated the then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram seat and this time he also defeated her from Bhawanipur seat. After winning two consecutive high-profile contests, the BJP leadership expressed confidence in him for the post of Chief Minister.

With this, Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year long rule formally ended and the way was cleared for BJP to form government for the first time in the state.
In the 2026 assembly elections, BJP has achieved a clear majority by winning 207 seats.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister and the BJP government will be held on Saturday (May 9) at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. This program has been organized on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President Nitin Naveen and many Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states can attend the ceremony. BJP is seeing this swearing-in ceremony as a big demonstration of its historic political success in the state.
