UP will increase honey business by meeting New Zealand, beekeeping sector will be connected to modern technology and global market.
Lucknow, Read: Efforts have been intensified to give global recognition to honey production and beekeeping in the state. On Friday, a five-member New Zealand delegation met Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Horticulture Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh and held detailed discussions regarding cooperation in the agriculture and honey production sectors.
This New Zealand delegation has come to visit the state under the ‘Honey Action Plan’ run in collaboration with APEDA and New Zealand. The delegation visited the ‘Center of Excellence for Honey’ under construction at Shivgarh in Rae Bareli and the unit of honey exporter Nirtat Singh ‘Beekeeper’ in Barabanki and took stock of the possibilities of honey production and processing in the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a detailed action plan to promote honey production, processing and export. He also said that through international cooperation and new technology, quality honey production will be promoted and new employment opportunities will be created in rural areas.
After the meeting, the Horticulture Minister directed that the work of the Center of Excellence for Honey under construction in Rae Bareli should be completed and made operational soon. Along with this, instructions were also given to send Barabanki’s progressive beekeeper Nimit Singh ‘Beekeeper’ to New Zealand from June 2 to June 14 for training in modern techniques and scientific beekeeping. He said that continuous efforts are being made to increase the income of farmers and entrepreneurs by linking beekeeping with employment and self-employment in the state.

Additional Chief Secretary Horticulture and Food Processing Department BL Meena, Director BP Ram, honey exporter Nirmit Singh ‘Beekeeper’, APEDA officials and departmental officers were present in the meeting.
