Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali in trouble, NADA issues notice for not giving dope test
New Delhi. Big news has come out about Indian cricketers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has issued notices to both the star cricketers. Action has been taken against both the players under the ‘Whereabouts Failure’ rule. ‘Whereabouts failure’ is a rule related to anti-doping rules, under which athletes are required to declare where they will be present at a certain time, so that a surprise dope test can be conducted.
According to sources, both the players have missed the test for the first time. However, NADA has also given him a chance to clarify and information about this entire process has also been given to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Both players Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali Verma are part of NADA’s Registered Testing Pool (RTP).
Players involved in RTP have to inform the agency in advance as to at what time and place they will be available for dope test. After this, the Doping Control Officer (DCO) can reach there anytime in the fixed slot and take the sample. According to the information, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dope test was to be held on December 17. Whereas Shefali Verma’s test was scheduled for 7th November. But when the DCO reached the fixed location, both the players were not found there.
After this, NADA sent a clarification notice to both the players in February. Answer was sought from Yashasvi Jaiswal on 18th February and from Shefali on 20th February. According to sources, after receiving no response from both the players, the agency registered the first ‘missed test’ against them.
Will action be taken against both the players?
However, this case does not currently fall under the category of direct doping violation. According to anti-doping rules, if an athlete is found guilty of ‘whereabouts failure’ three times within 12 months, he can be considered guilty of breaking anti-doping rules. In such a situation, if the players are unable to prove themselves innocent in the NADA hearing, they can be banned for up to two years.
At present, both Yashasvi and Shefali have a chance to present their side. But this case has definitely sparked a new discussion regarding anti-doping rules in Indian cricket. Especially because both the players are considered the future of Indian cricket and have performed brilliantly in recent times.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. On the other hand, Shefali Verma played an important role in India’s title win in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Shefali participated in the five-match Women’s T20 series on the South Africa tour last month.
