Mourning in Kota Medical College, 2 pregnant women died after operation; 4’s kidney failure
quota: The issue of deteriorating health of mothers after cesarean delivery at the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) in Kota, Rajasthan has now turned into a serious medical and administrative crisis. So far, two women have died, while treatment of four other pregnant women continues in the ICU and Nephrology ward. After this incident, many questions are being raised on the hospital administration, district administration and state government.
The family members have made serious allegations against the hospital like giving wrong medicines and missing medical records. At the same time, the government has started a high level investigation into the matter and a team of specialist doctors from Jaipur has been sent to Kota. Meanwhile, action has also been taken against doctors and nursing staff on charges of negligence.
Big action by government, doctor and nurse suspended
On May 9, 2026, the state government took strict action in the matter and suspended Dr. Navneet Kumar and two nurses Gurjot Kaur and Nimesh Verma.
Apart from this, the services of Dr Shraddha Upadhyay, who was working on contract, were terminated with immediate effect. A notice has been issued to Unit Head Dr. BL Patidar and Dr. Neha Sihra and their answers have been sought as to how such a big lapse took place under their supervision.
The government has made it clear that those who play with the lives of patients will not be spared.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reached the house of the victim’s family
The incident has also increased the stir at the political level. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla first reached the hospital and later went to the house of deceased Jyoti and met the family.
He wrote on social media, "The death of two pregnant women in the Medical College Hospital is extremely heart-wrenching and sad. Today met the victim’s family in Crusher Basti and expressed deep condolences. The family members have been assured that the entire matter will be seriously investigated and strict action will be taken against the culprits."
Congress formed investigation committee
Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee has also constituted a four-member fact finding committee in the matter.
Former minister Parsadi Lal Meena, MLA Dungarram Gaidar, General Secretary Pushpendra Bhardwaj and Dr. Vikas Mahala have been included in this committee. The committee has been instructed to submit its report within three days.
Serious signs revealed in medical report
Many worrying facts have come to light in the medical report of pregnant woman Ragini, who was admitted in critical condition.
According to the report, ‘Increased Echogenicity’ has been found in both the kidneys, which indicates serious infection or kidney damage. Apart from this, symptoms like accumulation of blood in the stomach, ‘Blood on aspiration’ and enlargement of the liver have also been found.
Based on the report, it is suspected that some poisonous element or wrong medicine had an effect on the main organs of the body.
Family members accused of missing files
Deceased Jyoti’s husband Ravi and other family members have made serious allegations against the hospital administration.
Family members say that the patient’s condition deteriorated after an injection was given after the operation. He alleged that now the hospital administration is removing old files and making new slips.
The family members have demanded that old medical files be brought forward so that it can be known which medicine was given.
Contradiction seen in officials’ statements
District Collector Piyush Samaria said that the condition of the women was normal at the time of recruitment and the reasons for the sudden deterioration in their health were being investigated.
He told that samples of medicines have been sent to FSL for testing.
Whereas Medical College Principal Dr. Nilesh Kumar Jain gave a clean chit to the staff in the initial investigation and said that till now no evidence of any human negligence has been found and it could also be a medical complication.
Team of experts arrived from Jaipur
On the instructions of the state government, a team of specialist doctors from Jaipur’s SMS Hospital and AIIMS has reached Kota.
Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar visited the hospital and took stock of the condition of the patients. The administration has decided not to refer patients to Jaipur at present.
Fear and silence spread in the hospital
After the incident, there is an atmosphere of fear and tension in the hospital. The treatment of women admitted in ICU and dialysis units is continuing under the supervision of experts.
Whereas those newborn children have been shifted to a separate ward, whose mothers are either no more in this world or are struggling between life and death.
